Our Village
Bishop’s Cleeve is a village set at the foot of Cleeve Hill, the highest point in the Cotswolds. The village lies three miles north of Cheltenham on the road to Evesham. It was founded in the ninth century as a missionary settlement to the monastery at Gloucester. Despite its proximity to Cheltenham, the village of Bishop's Cleeve falls within the boundaries of Tewkesbury Borough Council.
Despite much development in recent years, the centre of the village still retains many of the historic buildings which have given Bishop’s Cleeve its character. Indeed the parish church of St Michael and All Angels is one of the finest Norman Transitional churches in the country and contains a wealth of interesting features. We are fortunate to have a very close relationship with the church. Each year several of our year groups visit the church and we also hold our Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas carol performances there.
Another particularly historic building is the Tithe Barn, with its walls of Cotswold stone and its hammer beam roof, a wonderful example of 15th century carpentry. Opposite the Tithe Barn is the Old Rectory, parts of which date back to the 13th Century when it was used as a manor house by the mediaeval Bishop of Worcester.
Our school is situated in the heart of the village where it has served local children since 1981.
Bishop’s Cleeve is home to two large supermarkets which, together with local traders, provide for a wide variety of shopping needs. The proximity of Cheltenham (3 miles), Tewkesbury (6 miles) and Gloucester (12 miles) is also an added advantage.
The local secondary school, Cleeve School, is an academy school that provides for the educational needs of most of the Key Stage 3 and 4 children from this area
The proximity of Cheltenham, Gloucester and Winchcombe means that there is a wide choice of secondary education, including several private schools and some excellent grammar schools.
